The engineers joining this team are coming from Atlassian, AWS, Canva, and Google. That tells you everything about the engineering culture.

This is a permanent Senior Java Engineer role on a fast-growing digital platform team inside one of Australia's most well-resourced technology organisations. Engineers own their services end to end. Architecture decisions, production quality, and observability all sit with the engineer who built it. No ticket queues. Real ownership from day one.

The work is genuinely hard. High-throughput, event-driven distributed systems built on Java 21, Spring Boot, Kafka, and Kubernetes on AWS. Platform-level engineering where downstream teams and users depend on what you build being correct and available. If you want to be building the infrastructure rather than consuming it, this is the role.

AI tooling is embedded into daily delivery, not on a roadmap. Every engineer uses Claude Code, GitHub Copilot, or Gemini CLI as part of how they ship. Strong TDD culture, full test pyramid, genuine IC progression from Senior to Lead to Staff to Principal without going into management.

What We Are Looking For

• Strong hands-on Java experience with Java 17 or 21 and Spring Boot in production.
• Experience designing and building microservices and event-driven systems, ideally with Kafka.
• Solid AWS production experience including EKS, Lambda, RDS, or SQS.
• Kubernetes and containers in production.
• A design-first mindset. Someone who takes a problem and turns it into a defensible system design, then owns the outcome.
• Strong Java fundamentals and a platform builder mindset matter more than ticking every box.
