Job summary

Ucentric is seeking a Senior Software Engineer to own and evolve a production communications SaaS platform. The role encompasses hands-on work with programmable telephony, AI-assisted development, and complex multi‑channel context management.

You’ll collaborate with senior leaders to shape architecture, ensure reliability, and deliver scalable customer-facing systems. Melbourne‑based preference with Australia‑wide consideration, remote‑first, and strong ownership of what ships.

Qualifications

• Experienced senior software engineer with ownership beyond coding.
• Hands-on with AI-assisted development and coding agents.
• Hands-on Twilio, Telnyx or comparable programmable telephony experience.
• Strong API and third‑party integration capabilities.
• Experience building reliable, scalable customer‑facing systems.
• Strong systems thinking and architectural skills.
• Experience debugging across multiple systems and boundaries.
• Understanding of retries, idempotency and state management.
• Ability to understand and safely change evolving production systems.
• Ownership mindset for what you build, ship and operate.
• Experience collaborating with offshore/distributed teams.
• Clear technical communication and trade-off discussions.

Responsibilities

• Own the design, development and evolution of customer-facing production systems.
• Build and improve programmable telephony and messaging workflows.
• Maintain customer identity and conversation context across channels.
• Design and integrate APIs and third-party services.
• Improve reliability, deployment safety and observability.
• Diagnose complex issues across application and integration boundaries.
• Lead architecture decisions with leadership teams.
