Job summary

NRW Civil & Mining is seeking a Senior Section Engineer to lead engineering activities on major infrastructure projects in Australia. You will mentor Section Engineers and Project Engineers, coordinate design and construction teams, and ensure delivery to plans, safety, and quality requirements.

The role requires extensive civil construction experience, Main Roads WA familiarity, and strong financial management, stakeholder engagement, and leadership capabilities to drive projects to successful

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering qualification or relevant degree.
  • Extensive experience as a Senior Section Engineer/Section Engineer in large-scale civil projects.
  • Main Roads WA experience highly regarded with understanding of approvals and scope.
  • Deep technical expertise across road and pavement construction.
  • Strong financial management including reporting, forecasting and productivity.
  • Proven client, subcontractor and supplier communication and escalation ability.
  • Experience mentoring Section Engineers, Project Engineers and Graduates.
  • Ability to lead and engage multidisciplinary teams and project communications.
  • Knowledge of WHS/OHS, regulatory requirements and procurement processes.
  • Proficiency with MS Office, CAD, PDF tools, and scheduling software.

Responsibilities

  • Supervise Section Engineers, Project Engineers and Graduates and support the Construction Manager.
  • Provide engineering leadership focused on safety, quality and KPI results.
  • Lead risk management activities and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Educate on contract rights and obligations around variations and programmer responsibilities.
  • Manage cost and revenue reporting to the project team and client.
  • Complete monthly financial reporting for works under control.
  • Develop a detailed construction programme resource-loaded against budget.
  • Identify procurement packages that may breach budget and advise senior management.
  • Prepare forecasting reports and communicate trends with interventions as needed.
  • Provide senior input into procurement and planning and escalation for technical issues.

Scope of Work:

Due to continued growth and recent project awards, NRW Civil &Mining are seeking an experienced Senior SectionEngineer to join our high-performing team on upcominginfrastructure projects.

This role will see you working on large-scale urban projectssuch as roads, bridges, rail, and associated infrastructure withina metro environment. The successful candidate will provide seniortechnical leadership and engineering oversight, coordinating andadministering engineering activities to ensure projects aredelivered safely, in accordance with plans, designs, andspecifications, and to successful completion.

You will play a key role in mentoring and developing SectionEngineers, Project Engineers and Graduates, acting as a seniorpoint of escalation and supporting the Construction Manager inclient-facing discussions and project reviews.

To be considered for the position as a Senior SectionEngineer you must possess the following as a minimum:

  • Bachelor of Civil Engineering qualification or relevantdegree
  • Extensive experience as a Senior Section Engineer, SectionEngineer or similar role in a large-scale civil orinfrastructure environment
  • Main Roads WA experience highly regarded, with a strongunderstanding of authority requirements and approval processesincluding scope of works and requirements
  • Deep technical expertise across road and pavementconstruction, including bulk/detailed earthworks, subgradepreparation, and complex structures
  • High-level financial management experience, includingend-of-month reporting, package forecasting, variance analysis,and productivity optimisation
  • Demonstrated ability to independently communicate andnegotiate with clients, subcontractors and suppliers to meetproject objectives, escalating to the Construction Manager asrequired
  • Competent in conducting, reviewing and/or coordinatingPerformance Appraisals and Development Plans for directreports
  • Demonstrates active ownership in the monitoring and growthof direct reports
  • Demonstrated experience mentoring and developing SectionEngineers, Project Engineers and Graduate Engineers
  • Ability to disseminate company communications in anengaging and consistent manner at project level
  • Ability to inspire and lead relevant work teams within theproject scope
  • Demonstrates an understanding, and can apply applicablelegislative requirements (i.e. WHS/OHS Act, Regulations,Quality and Environment)
  • Experience in managing procurements and packages ofworks
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, CAD and PDFsoftware packages
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Project / Primavera P6 software
  • Proven site execution capability, working with Supervisors,Superintendents and client representatives to maintain andbuild strong relationships
  • Ability to work autonomously and collaboratively, withdemonstrated experience leading and managing multidisciplinaryengineering teams

Reporting to the Construction Manager, you will beresponsible for but not limited to:

  • Supervise Section Engineers, Project Engineers and GraduateEngineers and support the Construction Manager in the safe andefficient delivery of the project
  • Provide engineering leadership through safety, quality andenvironment behaviours and results (KPIs achieved)
  • Lead risk management activities on projects, with HSEsupport
  • Manage risk reduction strategies over the project life toachieve risk mitigation
  • Educate and cascade the rights and obligations under thecontract to engineers, particularly the process aroundvariations, latent conditions, and programmeresponsibilities
  • Manage cost and revenue reporting to relevant teammembers
  • Complete monthly financial reporting requirements for worksunder control
  • Develop a Construction Programme required under thecontract that is sufficiently detailed and resource-loaded withthe approved budget
  • Identify (early in the project) procurement packages thatwill exceed budget and communicate to senior management
  • Complete forecasting reports accurately, on time andconsistently
  • Identify and analyse project forecast trends, developingintervention and recovery plans where required
  • Identify and implement effective production monitoring andcontrol processes to identify gaps and opportunitiesimplore improve
  • Provide a Lessons Learnt document at the close-out of aproject, or as required for longer-term contracts
  • Provide senior engineering oversight and input intoprocurement and planning across the project
  • Act as a key point of escalation for engineering andtechnical issues raised by Section Engineers, Project Engineersand Supervisors
  • Support the Construction Manager in client-facing meetings,progress reviews and technical discussions
