Job summary

Megavar is seeking a Senior Secondary Design Engineer in Australia to lead protection and control design for transmission and distribution substations, from concept through detailed design. You will review and verify work of the secondary design team and deliver designs on time and within budget.

This role offers flexible working arrangements based in Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle with project travel across Australia, and opportunities to progress toward Chartered status.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical or power engineering.
• 5+ years' experience in substation secondary design, preferably in consulting.
• Knowledge of protection and control design to Australian standards.
• Site experience on substation projects through construction and commissioning.
• Experience with AutoCAD and/or MicroStation.

Responsibilities

• Lead secondary systems design for transmission and distribution substations from concept to detailed design.
• Produce and review protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and room layouts.
• Lead, review and verify detailed designs and technical reports for clients.
• Deliver design scopes on time and within budget.
• Undertake site inspections and reporting.
• Collaborate with primary design, SCADA and commissioning engineers on multidisciplinary HV projects.
• Liaise with clients and contractors on technical issues and problem resolution.

Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle (with project travel across Australia)

Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering primary and secondary design, SCADA, testing and commissioning, and substation maintenance for network businesses, generators and renewable energy developers across Tasmania, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Queensland. We're looking for a Senior Secondary Design Engineer to lead protection and control design on transmission and distribution substation projects, from concept to detailed design, and to review and verify the work of the wider secondary design team.

What You'll Be Doing

• Leading secondary systems design for transmission and distribution substations from concept through to detailed design.
• Producing and reviewing protection and control schematics, wiring diagrams, and protection and control room layouts.
• Leading, reviewing and verifying detailed designs and technical reports for clients.
• Delivering design scopes on time and within budget.
• Undertaking site inspections and associated reporting.
• Working alongside our primary design, SCADA and commissioning engineers on multidisciplinary HV projects.
• Liaising with clients and contractors on technical issues and problem resolution.

What We're Looking For

• A bachelor's degree in electrical or power engineering.
• At least 5 years' experience in substation secondary design, preferably in a consulting environment.
• Sound knowledge of protection and control design and of Australian transmission and distribution standards, with design experience for Australian network businesses.
• Site experience on substation projects through construction and commissioning.
• AutoCAD and/or MicroStation experience.
• Experience with, or the ability to learn independently, PTW, DIgSILENT PowerFactory and ETAP.
• Demonstrated leadership: influencing, motivating and delegating within project teams.
• Chartered status (CPEng) would be an advantage.
