Job summary

Megavar is a specialist high voltage engineering firm delivering testing, commissioning, and substation maintenance across Australia. We seek a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer to lead primary and secondary commissioning on substations, BESS, and renewables with travelling teams and energisation oversight.

You will mentor engineers, coordinate with clients and networks, and ensure documentation and test records meet specs and standards.

Qualifications

• A degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience commissioning HV electrical systems: substations, protection and control, renewables or BESS.
• Demonstrated experience leading commissioning on transmission or renewable energy projects.
• Strong understanding of protection and control systems, power systems and relevant Australian standards.
• Proficiency with secondary injection test sets and diagnostic equipment; Omicron experience is well regarded.

Responsibilities

• Primary and secondary commissioning of transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia.
• Testing and validating protection, control and SCADA systems against design specs, Australian standards and client requirements, predominantly using Omicron test equipment.
• Leading test teams on site and managing commissioning programs end to end.
• Fault-finding and resolving technical issues during commissioning, and coordinating with design teams and clients to close them out.
• Preparing and reviewing commissioning documentation: test plans, test records, ITPs and commissioning reports.
• Liaising directly with clients, contractors and network operators on technical issues and problem resolution.
• Mentoring less experienced commissioning engineers.

Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer

Location: Hobart, Launceston, Adelaide or Newcastle (with project travel across Australia)

We’re looking for a Senior Testing and Commissioning Engineer to lead primary and secondary commissioning on transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia, running test teams on site and taking commissioning programs through to energisation.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Primary and secondary commissioning of transmission and distribution substations, BESS and renewable energy projects across Australia.
• Testing and validating protection, control and SCADA systems against design specifications, Australian standards and client requirements, predominantly using Omicron test equipment.
• Leading test teams on site and managing commissioning programs end to end.

What We’re Looking For

• A degree or diploma in electrical or power engineering, or a related discipline.
• At least 5 years’ hands‑on experience commissioning HV electrical systems: substations, protection and control, renewables or BESS.
• Demonstrated experience leading commissioning on transmission or renewable energy projects.
• A strong understanding of protection and control systems, power systems and the relevant Australian standards.
• Proficiency with secondary injection test sets and diagnostic equipment. Omicron experience is well regarded.
• Willingness to travel and work at project sites across Australia.
• The discipline to keep test records, documentation and deadlines tight on client‑facing work.
