Job summary

Symal is seeking a Safety Manager to lead health and safety on a major multidisciplinary infrastructure project in Melbourne.

You will guide safety performance across rail, road, civil works and minor structures, embedding a strong safety culture from mobilisation through to completion. This is a permanent role commencing early 2027 with potential for earlier start for the right candidate.

Qualifications

• Experience as a Safety Manager on major civil infrastructure projects.
• Proven safety leadership across rail, road, civil works and minor structures.
• Ability to lead safety across complex, high-risk projects with multiple contractors and concurrent work fronts.
• Experience delivering multidisciplinary projects with rail interfaces highly regarded.
• Visible, credible safety leader influencing frontline to senior leadership.

Responsibilities

• Lead safety strategy, systems and performance across a large multidisciplinary infrastructure project.
• Develop and lead the project safety team, setting clear expectations and growth paths.
• Partner with project leadership, construction teams and subcontractors to manage critical risks.
• Oversee audits, investigations, risk reviews and corrective actions for continuous safety improvement.
• Represent the project with client, rail operators and regulators to meet requirements.
