Job summary

Aurec Group is seeking a Senior Project Engineer (Electrical Substation) in Canberra for a 12-month contract, onsite five days a week. The role involves managing a portfolio of new infrastructure projects and delivering from tender to closeout with PMBOK-based documentation, budgets, and stakeholder updates.

You will lead field activities, coordinate with project teams, and ensure HSEQ/Risk management compliance while using MS Project, SAP, and Excel to forecast costs and schedules.

Qualifications

• Proven experience delivering electrical substation projects in utilities or industrial settings.
• Knowledge of PMBOK-based frameworks and project documentation is preferred.
• Strong communication with internal and external stakeholders, including executives.

ROLE OVERVIEW

Senior Project Engineer (Electrical Substation) managing a portfolio of new infrastructure projects to support the growth of the electricity network. You will oversee all project delivery phases, from tender to closeout, with solid experience of both the commercial and technical aspects of delivering electrical substation and distribution projects. Most of the work at this stage is conduit/cable laying.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

Oversee all project delivery phases, from tender to closeout, ensuring alignment with organizational policies and procedures

Efficiently plan and coordinate project delivery to meet or exceed customer requirements

Manage field-based activities, including time, cost, quality, and safety, in collaboration with a project team (engineer, construction manager, and field leaders)

Conduct risk assessments and workshops to mitigate HSE and enterprise risks

Lead communication with internal and external stakeholders, including C-suite executives, through status updates, board papers, and memos

Ensure full compliance with HSEQ Management and Risk Management Plans

Apply PMBOK-based frameworks to produce Project Management Plans and related documentation

Maintain project schedules using MS Project, manage resources, and forecast costs using SAP and Excel

MORE ABOUT YOU

Proven experience in projects within utilities infrastructure or industrial electrical environments

Extensive proven experience working with HV systems in Transmission Lines and/or Substations

Documented experience working with HV systems in construction, industrial, or utility environments

Experience influencing and engaging with a broad range of stakeholders to achieve outcomes whilst developing strong working relationships

Ability to lead and motivate teams and subcontractors to achieve project milestones

Expertise in managing budgets, controlling costs, and delivering financial outcomes

Advanced skills in MS Office, including MS Project; SAP experience is a plus

A degree in Electrical Engineering, or a closely related discipline, is highly desired
