Qualifications

• 10–15 years’ experience managing projects in the Food/Dairy/FMCG industries.
• Strong mechanical design and project leadership skills.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM) and equipment sizing.

Responsibilities

• Review customer specifications, commercial documents and standards to determine scope.
• Organize peer reviews to generate and review risk assessments.
• Size mechanical and powertrain components (shafts, bearings, gearboxes).
• Size heat transfer and fluid flow components (valves, pumps, burners, exchangers).
• Specify purchased components (sensors, switches).
• Oversee 3D models in Autodesk Inventor and 2D drawings in AutoCAD.
• Monitor schedules to avoid delays and support fabrication progress.
• Assist field service during installation, start-up and commissioning; travel as needed.

Job description

Established in 1950, Heat and Control is a privately-owned, global manufacturer of industrial food processing and packaging equipment. With several offices globally our team are process and product technologists that bring science, imagination, and unmatched commitment to everything we do.

As Senior Project Engineer you will be responsible for the technical aspects of projects to supply large capital food processing equipment to customers. This includes leading teams of one to five skilled mechanical design engineers on component specifications, equipment sizing, detailed design specifications, etc. You will act as the customer’s primary technical interface in conjunction with sales, project management, and the service group to ensure equipment meets expectations.

You will be responsible for:

• Review of customer specifications, commercial documents, and internal standards documentation to determine scope of project supply.
• Organize and participate in peer review meetings to generate and review Risk Assessments.
• Sizing of mechanical and powertrain components (shafts, bearings, sprockets, gearboxes).
• Sizing of heat transfer and fluid flow components (valves, pumps, burners, heat exchangers).
• Specification of purchased components (sensors and switches).
• Overseeing the design of industrial food processing and packaging equipment models in Autodesk Inventor 3D.
• Overseeing the drafting of equipment layout/installation drawings, piping and instrumentation drawings, and process flow diagrams in AutoCAD 2D.
• Monitor design and customer drawing release schedules to ensure project is not delayed.
• Support equipment fabrication progress through our factory; we have a full machine shop, sheet metal shop with laserjet, and welding assembly shop.
• Work with our field service group to support equipment installation, start-up, and commissioning.
• Mobility as required to review equipment during construction and during commissioning offsite.
• Occasional travel to customer facilities for meetings and equipment troubleshooting.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have a proven track record of delivering reliable projects in a project manufacturing environment.

Additionally, you will have:

• Mechanical Engineering degree.
• 10 - 15 years’ experience with managing projects in the Food/Diary/FMCG industries.
• Knowledge of design and manufacturability (DFM).
• Experience in food processing equipment is a plus, but analytical ability is most important.
• Experience working in SAP is preferred.
