• Working knowledge of manufacturing or process industries and food safety principles.

Are you an experienced engineer who enjoys turning ideas into practical improvements on the factory floor? We’re seeking a Project Engineer to lead and support capital and plant-improvement projects at our Rooty Hill site, from feasibility and approval through to design, installation, commissioning and handover.

This is a hands-on role where you’ll help deliver safe, reliable and financially responsible solutions that improve site capability, capacity, quality, cost and operational readiness. You’ll work closely with teams across the site and lead project teams, contractors and suppliers through to successful completion.

Key Responsibilities:

As our Project Engineer at Rooty Hill, you will be at the forefront of driving technical innovation and operational excellence by:

Lead moderate-complexity capital and plant-improvement projects through the General Mills project delivery process

Develop project scopes, requirements, success criteria, schedules, budgets, resource plans, stakeholder maps and risk registers

Prepare capital approval information, estimates, cash-flow profiles, benefits, assumptions and decision risks

Coordinate engineering design, technical specifications, tendering, bid evaluation, procurement and vendor documentation

Manage contractors, suppliers and engineering consultants during installation, including change control, field issue resolution, safety, quality and schedule requirements

Lead engineering commissioning, start-up, training, operational readiness, handover and project closeout

Maintain accurate project forecasts, commitments, risks, actions, decisions and change records

Support capital planning by assessing project ideas, developing feasibility assessments and recommending priorities based on safety, quality, compliance, reliability, capacity, cost, risk and business impact

Provide technical engineering support through structured problem-solving, troubleshooting, root-cause analysis and loss elimination

Work cross-functionally to align priorities, manage dependencies and deliver successful project outcomes

Build safety, food safety, GMP, sanitary design, allergen-risk management, maintainability and reliability into project decisions

About you

To be successful in this role, you will bring:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent tertiary qualification in Engineering, ideally Mechanical, Electrical, Mechatronics, Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing or a related discipline

At least three years’ relevant experience, preferably five years, in an engineering or project delivery role

Experience delivering small-to-medium or moderate-complexity capital, equipment, utilities, facility or continuous-improvement projects in an operating plant

Experience with project scope, scheduling, cost estimation, budget control, forecasting, risk management, change control, procurement and closeout

Experience coordinating vendors, contractors or engineering consultants through installation, commissioning, testing, start-up and operational handover

The ability to interpret engineering drawings, layouts, PFDs, P&IDs, equipment specifications and technical documentation

A working knowledge of manufacturing, FMCG, food processing, packaging or another process industry

An understanding of food safety, GMP, sanitary design, machine safety, ergonomics, maintainability and reliability principles

Strong communication, relationship-building and influencing skills, with the ability to work effectively across technical and operational teams

A structured, practical and proactive approach to problem-solving, with the confidence to work independently and elevate material risks early

Computer literacy, including Microsoft 365; experience with SAP/ERP, project scheduling, cost-tracking or capital-management tools will be well regarded

Flexibility to be involved in occasional shutdown, installation, commissioning or start-up activities outside standard hours
