Job summary

Master Builders Solutions in Australia is seeking a Senior Formulation Chemist to lead the development, optimisation and commercialisation of construction chemical solutions across the product portfolio. This hands-on role requires translating customer needs into industry-leading formulations and working with Technical Sales, Product Management, Operations and customers to shape product strategy.

You will develop robust formulations, conduct lab and field trials, and mentor laboratory staff

Qualifications

• Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science or Chemical Engineering or related discipline.
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Excellent communication with ability to influence technical and commercial stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead formulation and development of grout, resins, mortars, admixtures and other construction chemical products.
• Design and execute laboratory, field and validation programs.
• Drive product innovation, localisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Role

We are seeking a Senior Product Development Chemist to lead the development, optimisation and commercialisation of innovative construction chemical solutions across our product portfolio. This is a pivotal technical role that offers the opportunity to influence product strategy, drive innovation, and provide technical leadership within a market-leading business. This is a hands‑on position, responsible for developing robust, commercially viable formulations and translating customer and market needs into industry‑leading products. Working closely with Technical Sales, Product Management, Operations and customers, you will play a key role in shaping the future direction of our construction chemicals portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead the formulation and development of grouts, resins, mortars, admixtures and other specialty construction chemical products.
• Design and execute structured laboratory, field and validation programs.
• Drive product innovation, localisation and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Develop robust formulations through a strong understanding of raw material chemistry and performance characteristics.
• Conduct competitive benchmarking and identify opportunities for portfolio enhancement.
• Lead scale‑up activities and support manufacturing and plant trials.
• Investigate technical issues and develop practical, customer‑focused solutions.
• Evaluate and qualify alternative raw materials and suppliers.
• Work closely with commercial teams to understand market needs and emerging trends.
• Present technical recommendations and project outcomes to key stakeholders.
• Mentor and provide technical guidance to laboratory and technical team members.
• Contribute to strategic product planning and innovation roadmaps.
• Design and deliver lab trials, testing programs, and performance monitoring in line with AS 1478, AS 1012, and other relevant standards.
• Ensure all work meets WHS, ISO 17025, and Australian Standards requirements.

About You

• Degree qualifications in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or a related discipline.
• Significant experience in formulation development within construction chemicals or related specialty chemical industries.
• Demonstrated expertise in one or more of the following: Cementitious grouts and mortars, Epoxy and polyurethane resins, Concrete admixtures, Concrete repair and protection systems, Specialty coatings or polymer‑based formulations.
• Strong understanding of raw material functionality, formulation design and product performance optimisation.
• Strong project management and stakeholder engagement skills.
• A track record of technical problem‑solving and innovation delivery.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and commercial stakeholders.
