Job summary

Limber seeks an experienced Senior Privacy and Information Lawyer for a secondment within a high profile Commonwealth Agency in Canberra. You will advise on the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and secrecy provisions, with responsibilities spanning privacy governance and data sharing.

Ideal candidates will hold a current practising certificate, extensive Commonwealth government experience, and Baseline Security Clearance. Australian citizenship is required for eligibility and suitability.

Qualifications

• A current practising certificate and extensive Commonwealth government experience providing legal advice under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) is essential.
• Ability to advise on secrecy provisions and privacy governance within a major government department.
• Strong briefing skills for senior executives and diverse client areas.

Responsibilities

• Provide in-house secondee advice on privacy and information law to a Commonwealth Agency.
• Advise on PTAs/PIAs, data exchanges, and third party data access arrangements.
• Brief senior executives and engage with stakeholders across multiple client areas.

Job description

The Role

We currently have a secondment opportunities available for experienced Senior Privacy and Information Lawyers within a high profile Commonwealth Agency. Ideal candidates will have skills and experience in advising on the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and secrecy provisions.

The Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be required to work as a secondee within the Department’s in-house legal team. High level stakeholder engagement skills are required as the successful candidate will be required to provide advice and assistance to a wide range of client areas, including briefing senior executives.

The Secondee Will Be Required To Advise On

• secrecy provisions;
• privacy assurance processes such as Privacy Threshold Assessments (PTAs) and Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs);
• privacy law legal advice;
• information and data exchanges, data sharing and governance (including third party data access arrangements and data matching); and
• general advice on privacy and information law.

The Requirements

A current practising certificate and extensive Commonwealth government experience providing legal advice under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) is essential.
