Lead the structural design and delivery of complex residential and mixed-use developments.

JSBC Consulting is an established Structural and Façade Engineering consultancy delivering large-scale, complex and architecturally challenging building projects across Sydney and Australia.

As our structural team continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior or Principal Structural Engineer to take a leading role in the technical design, coordination and delivery of our projects.

This opportunity is suited to an engineer with strong technical judgement, proven project delivery experience and the confidence to lead projects and guide others. You will remain hands‑on with engineering while taking ownership of design decisions, client relationships and project outcomes.

Working closely with our Structural Engineering Lead, you will help deliver practical, efficient and well-coordinated structural solutions from concept through to construction. You will also contribute to the development of our engineers and the continued improvement of our technical standards.

The appointment will be made at Senior or Principal level, depending on your technical capability, leadership experience and track record in delivering building projects.

The Role

You will take a leading role in delivering structural engineering services across the full project lifecycle. Your responsibilities will include:

• Project leadership and delivery: Lead structural projects from concept design through detailed documentation and construction, managing design priorities, coordination, deadlines and the quality of engineering deliverables.
• Structural design and technical problem-solving: Develop structural concepts and undertake the design of reinforced concrete, post-tensioned concrete, steel and other structural systems, balancing performance, efficiency, buildability and project requirements.
• Technical review and quality: Prepare and review structural analysis models, calculations, engineering sketches and documentation, applying sound engineering judgement and maintaining consistent technical standards.
• Team coordination and mentoring: Provide clear direction to engineers and drafters, review their work and support the development of junior engineers through practical guidance and constructive feedback.
• Client and consultant coordination: Represent JSBC in design and coordination meetings, communicate design decisions clearly and work directly with architects, developers, builders and other consultants to resolve project challenges.
• Construction-phase engineering: Oversee and contribute to RFI responses, shop drawing reviews, site inspections and the resolution of structural issues during construction.

At Principal level, you will also take on broader responsibility for technical leadership across multiple projects, supporting complex design decisions and reviews, guiding project engineers and contributing to resource planning, delivery standards and the ongoing development of the structural team.

About You

We are looking for an engineer with substantial experience in the Sydney / NSW structural buildings market and a demonstrated ability to take responsibility for technically demanding projects.

You will bring:

• Relevant qualifications and senior-level experience: A Bachelor of Engineering in Civil or Structural Engineering, together with a strong track record in structural building design and project delivery at Senior or Principal Engineer level.
• Strong local project experience: Significant experience delivering multi-storey residential apartment and mixed-use developments in Sydney / NSW. Experience with commercial or retail buildings will also be valued.
• Sound technical judgement: Strong capability in reinforced concrete and post-tensioned concrete design, multi-storey structural systems and the development of practical, efficient engineering solutions.
• End-to-end delivery capability: Experience taking projects through both design and construction, coordinating multidisciplinary inputs and resolving issues with an understanding of buildability, programme and commercial implications.
• Relevant standards and software knowledge: Strong working knowledge of Australian Standards, the NCC and the NSW Design and Building Practitioners framework. Proficiency in ETABS, together with experience using relevant software such as RAPT, RAM Concept, WALLAP, SpaceGass and/or Microstran.
• Communication and leadership: The ability to explain engineering decisions clearly, build productive relationships with clients and consultants, provide effective direction to project teams and mentor less experienced engineers.

CPEng, NER and/or relevant NSW Professional Engineer and Design Practitioner registrations will be highly regarded, particularly for Principal-level applicants.

This role will suit an established Senior Structural Engineer ready for greater project ownership and leadership responsibility, or a Principal Structural Engineer seeking a hands‑on technical leadership position with direct influence on project delivery and team development.

You may be working in a larger consultancy and looking for closer involvement in key decisions, or in a smaller practice and seeking exposure to larger, more complex developments.
