Job summary

BHP is seeking a Senior Mining Engineer (Prestrip) to join our open-cut coal operation in Queensland's Bowen Basin. You will lead prestrip planning, delivering safe, efficient dig-and-dump plans while partnering with operations, technical services and leadership to meet business objectives.

You will mentor a team of Prestrip engineers, contribute to a modern 90-day schedule framework, and collaborate across planning and execution teams to drive consistent delivery and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• +5 years experience in open cut coal mine planning, including truck and shovel design and scheduling.
• Experience with drill and blast is highly desirable.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Proficiency in planning software Deswik, Vulcan and SPRY.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver safe, efficient prestrip plans for dig & dump.
• Collaborate with scheduling to produce safe, productive short and medium-term mine plans.
• Implement the 90 day rolling activity schedule with project managers.
• Create pit execution strategies with tactical planning teams.
• Incorporate SRF and budget enablers into weekly plans in a balanced way.
• Monitor schedule compliance and report on progress.
• Lead, coach and develop a team of Prestrip engineers.
• Communicate planning outcomes clearly to production and execution teams.
