Job summary

BHP Group in Queensland's Bowen Basin seeks a Senior Mining Engineer (Prestrip) to lead safe, efficient prestrip plans for open cut coal operations. You will coach a team of Prestrip engineers, collaborating with operations, technical services and leadership to deliver plans within the 90-day activity cycle.

Reporting to the Superintendent Mine Planning, you will drive continuous improvement, influence planning outcomes across cross-functional teams, and contribute to safe, productive execution

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• +5 years experience in open cut coal mine planning, especially truck and shovel design and scheduling.
• Proficiency in mining software such as Deswik, Vulcan, and SPRY.
• Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Safety, efficiency and continuous improvement mindset.
• Ability to work in a fast paced, dynamic team environment.

Responsibilities

• Develop safe, efficient prestrip execution plans (dig & dump) for operational teams.
• Collaborate with scheduling to produce short- and medium-term mine plans.
• Align plans with the 90-day rolling activity schedule and project priorities.
• Integrate SRF and budget-critical activities into weekly plans with balance across resources.
• Monitor schedule compliance and adjust plans to maintain delivery.
• Lead and coach a team of Prestrip engineers for high performance.
• Communicate planning outcomes clearly to production and execution teams.
