Job summary

BHP is seeking an experienced Senior Mining Engineer (Prestrip) to join our open-cut coal operation in Queensland's Bowen Basin. You will lead a team delivering safe, efficient prestrip plans and work with operations, technical services and leadership to meet business objectives.

Reporting to Mine Planning, you will help develop 90-day schedules, integrate critical path activities and drive ongoing improvement in planning and execution.

Qualifications

• Degree in Mining Engineering or equivalent.
• Minimum 5+ years experience in open cut coal mine planning, including truck and shovel design, scheduling and operations management.
• Proficiency with Deswik, Vulcan and SPRY.

Responsibilities

• Develop and deliver safe, efficient, and productive prestrip execution plans (dig & dump) for operational teams.
• Collaborate with the scheduling team to develop safe, productive, and cost-effective short and medium term mine plans.
• Coordinate with project managers to implement the 90 day rolling activity schedule.
• Collaborate with tactical planning teams to develop pit execution strategies.
• Integrate SRF and budget critical path enabling activities into weekly mine plans with a balanced resource approach.
• Produce and maintain concepts aligned to operational requirements.
• Monitor and report schedule compliance.
• Understand site critical paths, buffer risk, and enabling activities to guide schedulers and project managers.
• Communicate planning outcomes clearly to production and execution teams.
• Contribute to incident investigations and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Assist contract management with daily management of contractor prestrip fleets.
• Coach, develop, and lead a team of Prestrip engineers.
