Job summary

Morson Edge is seeking a senior Grid Connection Engineer in Australia to own the technical case from application to registration. You will run in-house power system studies, review models, and support tenders and due diligence.

The role requires independent problem solving and strong report writing. You will collaborate with internal teams across projects, developing Python tools to automate studies and guiding junior engineers.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Electrical Engineering;Masters/PhD a plus.
• 5+ years of experience in power systems or grid connection.
• Strong PowerFactory, PSCAD and PSS/E skills for grid connection studies.
• Solid knowledge of NER Chapter 5 and Schedule 5.2.
• Experience with GPS compliance test plans and hold point testing.
• Confident solving complex engineering problems independently.
• Clear report writing and ability to explain technical points to a range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Run in-house power system studies for connection and pre-connection phases through to NER 5.3.4A/B approval and AEMO registration.
• Prepare PSS/E NEM snapshots for connection studies.
• Lead negotiation of Generator Performance Standards with network service providers and AEMO.
• Develop GPS compliance test plans, run hold point testing and write reports.
• Review OEM inverter and PPC models in PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory and assess risks.
• Carry out harmonics assessments for S5.2.5.2 compliance.
• Build and maintain Python tools that automate grid connection studies.
• Advise internal teams on grid connection matters including tenders, due diligence, contracts and site selection.
• Support changes to operating assets and help develop junior engineers.

About the company

An international renewables developer with a growing project portfolio across Australia. This is a technical role inside a specialist grid connection team, filling a vacant position.

About the role

You will support the grid connection team across the full project lifecycle, from application to connect through to commercial operation. You will do the power system modelling and studies in-house, so you own the technical result rather than managing a consultant.

What you will do

• Run in-house power system studies for the application to connect and pre-connection phases, through to NER 5.3.4A/B approval and AEMO registration
• Prepare PSS/E NEM snapshots for connection studies
• Lead the negotiation of Generator Performance Standards with network service providers and AEMO
• Develop GPS compliance test plans, run hold point testing and write the hold point and model validation reports
• Review OEM inverter and PPC models in PSS/E, PSCAD and PowerFactory and advise the business on the risks of each
• Carry out harmonics assessments for S5.2.5.2 compliance
• Build and maintain Python tools that automate grid connection studies
• Advise internal teams on grid connection matters, including tenders, due diligence, contracts and site selection
• Support changes to operating assets and help develop junior engineers

What you bring

Most grid connection engineers spend their time supporting studies someone else signs off. This role puts you in the room for the GPS negotiation, with your modelling driving the result and your name on the outcome. Roles where you own the technical case from application through to registration are rare in the NEM, and this one is open now.
