Job summary

Our client is a leading specialist engineering organisation for high-voltage design, transmission, storage and associated technology. They seek experienced Grid Connection Engineers to join their Melbourne team, with similar roles in other major Australian cities.

You will lead delivery of complex studies, develop grid strategies, and provide technical leadership across a portfolio of projects in Australia.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in power system analysis in grid connection, generation, transmission and distribution systems in Australia.
• Strong understanding of grid connections within the National Electricity Market (NEM).

Responsibilities

• Utilise PSCAD/PowerFactory/PSS/E/ETAP to develop grid models and assess performance.
• Perform load flow, short circuit, dynamic and transient stability studies.
• Conduct simulations covering stability, fault ride-through, voltage/frequency control, and system strength/inertia.
• Collaborate with internal electrical engineers to ensure seamless integration.
• Contribute to project strategy, risk positioning, and commercial decisions relating to grid compliance.
• Monitor post-commissioning performance; analyze deviations and implement optimisations.

The company continues to grow and demand from clients is high, as such they are looking for experienced Grid Connection Engineers to join their Melbourne team. They are also recruiting similar roles for other locations in major cities in Australia.

The Opportunity

This is a great opportunity to join a team of specialist engineers who provide technical solutions and expertise to multiple clients across a range of projects in Australia across the power and energy industry.

We are looking for experienced Grid Connection Engineers with expertise in power systems studies, grid connections, and renewable energy projects. You will work very closely with key stakeholders including developers, Network Service Providers, OEM's and other stakeholders in order to deliver high-quality technical solutions. can confidently present outstanding results and outcomes to clients. Our client prides themselves on providing specialist and technical advisory services, and grid connection expertise to help clients navigate complex regulatory, technical, and commercial challenges throughout the project lifecycle.

You will demonstrate proven ability to interpret, apply, and develop innovative power systems solutions, and will lead the delivery of complex studies and connection strategies while providing technical leadership across a diverse portfolio of projects.

Key Responsibilities:

• Utilize simulation tools (e.g., PSCAD, PowerFactory, PSS/E, ETAP) to develop grid models and assess grid performance.
• Perform power system analysis, including load flow, short circuit, dynamic, and transient stability studies including harmonic studies.
• Perform simulations including system stability, fault ride-through, voltage/frequency control, system strength / inertia, small signal stability, and other NER compliance
• Collaborate with internal teams, including electrical engineers, to ensure seamless integration.
• Provide input into project strategy, risk positioning, and commercial decisions related to grid compliance
• Monitor post-commissioning performance, analyse deviations, implement optimisation measures and derive lessons & improvements

Qualifications & Experience:

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Power Systems, or a related discipline.
• Minimum of 5 years experience in power system analysis in grid connection, generation, transmission and distribution systems in Australia.
• Strong understanding of grid connections within the National Electricity Market (NEM).
• Advanced experience with power systems modelling tools such as PowerFactory, PSCAD, PSS/E, Python etc.
• Knowledge and experience with planning and connection studies, including load flow and fault analysis.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and relationship management skills, including experience working with developers, investors, NSPs, and AEMO.
• Strong knowledge of NER, GPS requirements, and connection processes
• Familiarity with evolving grid codes and inverter-based resource requirements
• Demonstrated experience with Australian grid-connection processes in Data Centres would be highly advantageous.
• Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and manage multiple projects.
