Job summary

Gridsight is hiring a Senior/Staff Power Systems/Data Scientist to design and run AC and DC power flow simulations for modern electricity grids. You will forecast grid states, assess renewables connections, and optimise network operations in near real time.

You will implement power flow engines, develop estimation software, collaborate on model formulation, and contribute to data science strategy. Remote-friendly, with a focus on Australian markets.

Qualifications

• Power flow expertise with AC-OPF calculations and open-source tools (OpenDSS, pandapower, lf-energy).
• Experience with state/parameter estimation for energy networks or fitting high-dimension parametric models.
• Solid data science foundations: statistical modeling, numerical programming, algorithm design, data analysis.

Responsibilities

• Implement, adapt or develop AC and DC power flow engines for grid modelling and forecasting.
• Build scalable power flow modelling software for real-time or near-real-time operation.
• Solve AC OPF problems related to grid operations, resource dispatch and network management.
• Run, tune and debug both balanced and unbalanced load flows.
• Develop and run software for state and network parameter estimation (impedances, phasing, transformer mapping).
• Collaborate with grid modelling to formulate network models and constraints as optimisation problems.
• Establish best practices for power flow development, validation and monitoring.
• Contribute to technical strategy for data science, optimisation and future applications.
