Job summary

Gridsight is seeking a Senior/Staff Data Scientist (Optimisation) to design, implement and run optimisation engines powering modern electricity grids. You will help utilities forecast grid states, manage constraints and evaluate renewables connection applications rapidly.

You will lead optimisation initiatives, collaborate with the grid modelling team, and build scalable solutions with a focus on performance, reliability and observability in real-time contexts.

Qualifications

• 5+ years in linear optimisation roles with demonstrated impact.
• Strong understanding of existence and uniqueness of optima, ill-posedness, local vs global optimisation, gradient descent methods, least squares minimisation, non-convex optimisation.
• Deep experience with constrained optimisation, operations research, or similar fields (linear programming, convex optimisation, mixed-integer programming).
• Proficiency in Python for optimisation algorithms and data analysis; familiarity with modern software engineering practices.

Responsibilities

• Solve constrained optimisation problems related to grid operations, resource dispatch, and network management.
• Design optimisation solutions balancing safety, efficiency, and operational constraints.
• Collaborate with grid modelling team to formulate networks as optimisation problems.
• Build scalable optimisation solutions for real-time or near-real-time contexts.
• Establish best practices for optimisation model development, validation, and monitoring.
• Contribute to technical strategy for data science, optimisation capabilities and future applications.
