Job summary

Compnow is seeking a Senior Payroll Officer to manage end-to-end payroll across multiple states, partnering with People & Culture and Finance. You will oversee payroll, contracts, leave and employee movements, providing clear, approachable advice. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex payroll issues and improving processes.

You will work within the Finance team, with hybrid and on-site options, and contribute to a welcoming, inclusive workplace and ongoing career growth.

Qualifications

• 3–5 years payroll experience, including independently managing end-to-end payroll.
• Experience processing payroll for a large employee population (500+).
• Strong knowledge of leave accruals, entitlements, superannuation, salary sacrifice and novated leasing.
• Solid understanding of termination and redundancy calculations and employment contracts.

Responsibilities

• Manage the full payroll cycle across multiple states, including validation, reconciliation and Single Touch Payroll lodgement.
• Interpret and apply awards, employment agreements, legislation and company policies.
• Process superannuation, salary sacrifice, novated leasing, termination and redundancy payments.
• Manage end-of-year payroll processes, reporting, journals and reconciliations.
• Oversee leave accruals, entitlements and Compnow’s five-week annual leave incentive.
• Prepare employment contracts and variations, and support onboarding/offboarding.
• Manage the payroll inbox and respond promptly to queries.
• Maintain and troubleshoot ELMO Payroll while protecting data integrity.
• Lead process improvements to increase accuracy and efficiency.
• Support payroll audits and compliance checks.

What you’ll do?

As our Senior Payroll Officer, you’ll independently manage accurate, timely end-to-end payroll across multiple states while supporting employees and managers with clear, approachable advice. Sitting within the Finance team and partnering with People & Culture, Finance and external providers, you’ll oversee payroll, employment contracts, leave and employee movements. This role suits someone who enjoys solving complex payroll issues, improving processes and providing responsive, person-to-person support.

• Manage the full payroll cycle across multiple states, including validation, reconciliation and Single Touch Payroll lodgement.
• Interpret and apply awards, employment agreements, legislation and company policies.
• Process superannuation, salary sacrifice, novated leasing, termination and redundancy payments.
• Manage end-of-year payroll processes, reporting, journals and reconciliations.
• Oversee leave accruals, entitlements and Compnow’s five-week annual leave incentive.
• Prepare employment contracts and variations, and support employee onboarding and offboarding.
• Manage the payroll inbox and respond promptly to employee and manager queries.
• Maintain and troubleshoot ELMO Payroll while protecting payroll data integrity.
• Identify and lead process improvements that increase accuracy, efficiency and automation.
• Support payroll audits, compliance checks and related projects as your experience develops.

What you’ll bring?

• 3-5 yearspayroll experience, including independently managing end-to-end payroll.
• Experience processing payroll for a large employee population, ideally around 500 employees or more.
• Strong knowledge of leave accruals, entitlements, superannuation, salary sacrifice and novated leasing.
• Sound understanding of termination and redundancy calculations and employment contract preparation.
• High attention to detail, numerical accuracy and the ability to manage competing deadlines.
• A proactive, responsive communication style and the ability to explain payroll matters in plain language.
• An approachable, friendly and positive manner, with a willingness to speak directly with employees and managers.
• Employment Hero, ELMO, multi-state and end-of-year payroll experience will be highly regarded.

What else do you need to apply?

• Travel on-site to work in our office in Notting Hill and in a hybrid capacity. This role is also available in part-time hours (5 days a week from 10:00am - 3:00pm).
• Must be an Australian resident available to work full-time hours without restrictions.

Compnow will provide and require all successful applicants to complete a current National Police Check as well as a new or updated state-based Working With Children Check.
