Job summary

Sharp & Carter Accounting Clerical is seeking a Payroll Manager to lead a sophisticated, high-volume payroll function within a large, geographically dispersed organisation. You will own the payroll, drive accuracy, compliance, and efficiency while partnering with People & Culture and Finance.

You will oversee end-to-end payroll for a national workforce, ensuring governance, controls and continuous improvement, while developing a high-performing payroll team and guiding senior stakeholders on

Qualifications

• Senior payroll leader with experience in complex, multi-site organisations.
• Deep expertise in payroll legislation, compliance frameworks and industrial instruments.
• Proven ability to manage end-to-end, high-volume payroll with strong governance.
• Commercially aware and able to contribute to broader business decisions.
• Strong systems acumen and experience leading payroll transformation.
• Engaging stakeholder manager capable of influencing at all levels.

Responsibilities

• Provide strategic and operational leadership of the end-to-end payroll function across a national workforce.
• Ensure full compliance with legislative, regulatory, and industrial instruments.
• Oversee complex payroll activities including executive and non-standard remuneration, terminations, redundancies, and ETPs.
• Lead continuous improvement initiatives focusing on process optimisation, controls, and system enhancements.
• Develop and mentor a payroll team with a culture of accountability and service excellence.
• Act as the central escalation point for complex payroll matters for senior stakeholders.
• Drive payroll governance, including audit readiness, reconciliations, and reporting integrity.
• Partner with senior stakeholders across People & Culture, Finance, and business leadership to influence outcomes and mitigate risk.
