Job summary

NSW Health is seeking a Senior Occupational Therapist to lead advanced practice in the RAID-ED Team at Blacktown and Mount Druitt Hospitals. This temporary part-time role focuses on early discharge, admission avoidance and improving patient flow in emergency care.

You will coordinate complex assessments, collaborate with emergency clinicians and community services, and provide clinical leadership while delivering culturally responsive care across diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Extensive years of clinical experience in Occupational Therapy appropriate to acute care and emergency ward setting.
• Well-developed time management skills with excellent written and verbal communication, including report writing and high level computer literacy
• Demonstrated understanding of issues associated with working with culturally and linguistically diverse client groups
• Ability to initiate, lead, complete and share quality improvement initiatives and service evaluation processes and lead ongoing quality improvement activities with other staff
• Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and to apply advanced reasoning and independent professional judgement when dealing with novel, complex or critical situations
• Experience in staff supervision and teaching and clinical supervision and teaching of students
• Current NSW driver's licence
• Current NSW Health Practitioner Registration (AHPRA) or equivalent

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality, specialised occupational therapy assessment and intervention in the Emergency Department.
• Identify barriers to discharge and coordinate supports for safe, timely decisions.
• Combine hands-on clinical practice with leadership, education and service improvement to strengthen patient flow.
• Provide expert clinical recommendations and coordinate multidisciplinary interventions for discharge planning.
• Offer specialist advice and supervise colleagues in managing complex cases.
• Educate patients, families and healthcare professionals; supervise students and support professional development.
• Lead quality improvement initiatives and evaluate RAID-ED model outcomes.
• Maintain high safety and clinical practice standards.
