Job summary

CutlerMerz is seeking a Senior Power Systems Engineer to deliver advanced power system studies, grid connection advisory, and strategic support across Australian energy projects.

You will lead technical delivery, engage with clients, mentor junior engineers, and contribute to a culture of technical excellence in a consulting environment.

Qualifications

• 5+ years’ experience in power systems analysis within the energy sector.
• Proficient with PSSE, PSCAD and DIgSILENT PowerFactory.
• Strong understanding of electricity networks and the National Electricity Market (NEM).
• Experience with grid connection processes and regulatory requirements.
• Excellent analytical and client-facing communication.

Responsibilities

• Deliver power system studies including load flow and dynamic simulations.
• Assess fault level, voltage, protection, and harmonic analyses.
• Translate results into clear, actionable insights for clients.
• Lead project delivery and engage with stakeholders across engagements.

The Opportunity

This role offers the chance to work on large-scale, high-impact energy and infrastructure projects, delivering advanced power systems analysis, grid connection support, and strategic advice across the National Electricity Market.

As a Senior Engineer, you will play a key role in both technical delivery and client engagement, while supporting project leadership and mentoring junior team members.

Key Responsibilities

Power Systems Analysis & Studies

• Deliver advanced power system studies, including load flow, dynamic simulations, and system performance analysis
• Undertake studies such as fault level, voltage, protection, and harmonic assessments
• Translate technical outputs into clear, actionable insights for clients
• Contribute to projects across renewable energy, storage, and hybrid systems

Grid Connection & Advisory

• Support clients in navigating grid connection processes and regulatory frameworks
• Provide technical input into connection strategies and challenges
• Apply knowledge of electricity networks and market operation within the NEM

Project Delivery & Client Engagement

• Lead or contribute to project delivery across multiple engagements
• Build and maintain trusted client relationships
• Ensure high-quality outputs are delivered on time and to standard

Leadership & Mentorship

• Mentor and support the development of junior engineers
• Contribute to a culture of technical excellence and continuous development
• Provide leadership within project teams where required

What We’re Looking For

Technical Experience

• 5+ years’ experience in power systems analysis within the energy sector
• Proficiency with tools such as:
  • PSSE
  • PSCAD

• Strong understanding of:

• Experience with grid connection processes and regulatory requirements
