Job summary

Hatch in Brisbane, Australia seeks a Senior Mining Engineer – Surface Mining to deliver high-quality open pit studies and projects across mining and energy infrastructure. You will lead FEL 1–3 studies, design and optimise open pit mines, and collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to deliver practical, value-driven outcomes.

You bring a degree in Mining Engineering, strong experience in surface mining, and strong stakeholder engagement. Deswik or similar software experience is highly valued.

Qualifications

• Degree-qualified Mining Engineer with strong surface open pit mining experience.
• Experience delivering mining studies and projects (FEL 1–3) with strategic thinking.
• Strong stakeholder engagement and cross-disciplinary collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Lead and contribute to FEL 1–3 surface mining studies.
• Provide technical open pit design, planning and optimisation insights.
• Identify value drivers including cost, productivity and revenue.
• Build and maintain client relationships and understand operational needs.
• Collaborate across multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated solutions.
• Champion safety, innovation and continuous improvement across projects.
• Mentor and support junior engineers to build team capability.
