Firesoft People is partnering with a global trading firm to recruit a Senior Network Engineer for its IT Operations team in Sydney. You’ll own design decisions, tackle high-performance network challenges and contribute to mission-critical infrastructure.

The role covers global exchanges, colocation facilities and on-prem environments, with hands-on work on BGP/OSPF, Linux, automation and security. You’ll collaborate with engineers to deliver upgrades and improve resilience.

Qualifications

• Five+ years of experience supporting complex, mission-critical infrastructure.
• Strong core and WAN network design expertise, with the ability to explain and justify architectural decisions.
• Deep hands-on knowledge of BGP, OSPF, firewall policies and packet-level troubleshooting.
• Experience with multicast networking, including PIM and IGMP.
• Hands-on experience across colocation and on-premises switching and connectivity.
• Strong Linux skills, ideally with RHEL in high-performance environments.
• Experience with infrastructure automation, configuration management and monitoring tools.
• A proactive approach to identifying risks and opportunities for improvement.
• Clear communication, sound judgement and the ability to remain composed during time-sensitive incidents.

Responsabilités

• Maintain and improve highly available core and WAN networks, including routing, switching, multicast and exchange connectivity.
• Design, troubleshoot and optimise environments using BGP, OSPF, PIM and IGMP.
• Own firewall policies and investigate complex network issues through packet captures and detailed analysis.
• Support and tune Red Enterprise Linux systems across bare-metal hardware and hypervisors.
• Design and implement security controls and disaster recovery procedures.
• Lead maintenance windows and infrastructure upgrades, coordinating with internal teams, exchanges and colocation providers.
• Improve configuration management, monitoring and operational tooling using Ansible, Zabbix and Python.
• Respond to incidents, identify root causes and implement improvements that strengthen resilience and performance.
