Job summary

Civil Mine & Quarry Geotechnics Pty Ltd (CMQ) is seeking an experienced Mining Geotechnical Engineer to lead complex mine and quarry geotechnical designs and mentor junior staff. You will interpret geotechnical models, manage investigations, and liaise with clients across the resources sector.

You will contribute to risk assessments, ground control strategies, and monitoring programs while ensuring work meets safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Three+ years of geotechnical experience, preferably in mining/quarrying or heavy civil environments.
• Strong understanding of soil and rock mechanics and geotechnical principles.
• Proven ability to interpret geotechnical data and provide practical recommendations.

Responsibilities

• Develop and interpret geotechnical and geological models for mine and quarry design, planning and operations.
• Conduct slope stability assessments and rock mass characterisation.
• Plan and manage geotechnical field investigations (drilling, logging, mapping, sampling).
• Assess geotechnical risks for pit walls, waste dumps, and infrastructure.
• Prepare and review geotechnical reports, design recommendations, and risk assessments.
• Provide practical geotechnical advice to operators, project teams and contractors.
• Support field activities, inspections, monitoring, and ground condition assessments.
• Contribute to ground control strategies, slope management plans and monitoring programs.
• Manage geotechnical components to deliver on time and budget.
• Liaise with clients, operators, contractors, consultants and regulators.
• Provide technical leadership and mentoring to junior staff.
• Contribute to proposals and CMQ’s mining/geotechnical services development.
• Ensure compliance with legislation and CMQ’s health, safety, and quality systems.
