Job summary
ResMed in Sydney, Australia, is seeking a Senior Engineer, Automation/Mechatronics, to lead exploration and maturation of emerging automation technologies for future manufacturing.
You will translate product needs into technical concepts, prototypes, and demonstrators, working across robotics, sensing, machine vision, and controls to deliver scalable mechatronic solutions. Collaborate with product development and NPI teams to drive production-ready outcomes.
Responsibilities
- Identify and evaluate emerging automation, robotics, sensing, machine vision, and mechatronics technologies that could improve future manufacturing capabilities.
- Translate manufacturing challenges and future product requirements into clear technical hypotheses and experimental plans.
- Design and build proof-of-concept systems to rapidly test new ideas.
- Use structured experimentation to determine technical feasibility, capability, limitations, and key risks.
- Make clear recommendations on whether technologies should be advanced, redirected, partnered externally, or stopped.
- Design integrated mechatronic systems combining mechanical mechanisms, actuators, sensors, robotics, controls, machine vision, and software.
- Develop automation architectures for new and emerging manufacturing processes.
- Progress promising technologies from laboratory concepts toward production-relevant demonstrations.
- Collaborate with Product Development, NPI, Tooling, and Quality teams to deliver scalable solutions.
