Job summary

Heat and Control Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Project Engineer to lead the technical aspects of large capital food processing equipment projects. You will guide design teams and interface with sales, project management, and service to ensure equipment meets expectations.

Based in Mt Gravatt with global operations, the role involves design in Inventor, AutoCAD drafting, risk assessments, supplier specification, and on-site commissioning support, with occasional travel.

Qualifications

• Completion of tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering or equivalent experience.
• 10–15 years of project management experience in the Food/Diaries/FMCG industries.
• Knowledge of design for manufacturability (DFM).
• Experience with food processing equipment is a plus, but analytical ability is key.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office.
• Experience working in SAP is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Design of industrial food processing and packaging equipment models in Inventor 3D.
• Drafting layout, piping and instrumentation drawings, and process flow diagrams in AutoCAD 2D.
• Review customer specifications and documents to determine project scope.
• Lead peer reviews and risk assessments; monitor schedules and releases.
• Size mechanical and powertrain components; specify purchased sensors and switches.
• Support fabrication progress and assist installation, start-up, and commissioning.

Our equipment is exported around the world, with the company being the recipient of many prestigious export awards. Based in Mt Gravatt, the Brisbane design and manufacturing facility is the Head Office for Australia, SE Asia, India, China, Europe, UK and Africa operations.

With a growing project pipeline, we have a new opportunity for aSenior Project Engineerto take responsibility for the technical aspects of projects to supply large capital food processing equipment to customers. TheSenior Project Engineeracts as the customer’s primary technical interface in conjunction with sales, project management, and the service group to ensure equipment meets expectations. As Senior Project Engineer, you will lead teams of one to five skilled design engineers on component specifications, equipment sizing, detailed design specifications, etc.

You will be responsible for:

• Design of industrial food processing and packaging equipment models in Autodesk Inventor 3D.
• Drafting of equipment layout/installation drawings, piping and instrumentation drawings, and process flow diagrams in AutoCAD 2D.
• Review of customer specifications, commercial documents, and internal standards documentation to determine scope of project supply.
• Organize and participate in peer review meetings to generate and review Risk Assessments.
• Sizing of mechanical and powertrain components (shafts, bearings, sprockets, gearboxes).
• Sizing of heat transfer and fluid flow components (valves, pumps, burners, heat exchangers).
• Specification of purchased components (sensors and switches).
• Monitor design and customer drawing release schedules to ensure project is not delayed.
• Support equipment fabrication progress through our factory; we have a full machine shop, sheet metal shop with laserjet, and welding assembly shop.
• Work with our field service group to support equipment installation, start-up, and commissioning.
• Mobility as required to review equipment during construction and during commissioning offsite.
• Occasional travel to customer facilities for meetings and equipment troubleshooting.

About you

To succeed in this role, you will have a proven track record of delivering reliable projects in a project manufacturing environment.

Additionally, you will have:

• Completion of tertiary qualifications in mechanical engineering, or thorough relevant experience and other training.
• 10 - 15 years’ experience with managing projects in the Food/Diary/FMCG industries.
• Knowledge of design and manufacturability (DFM).
• Experience in food processing equipment is a plus, but analytical ability is most important.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office.
• Experience working in SAP is preferred.
