Job summary

Qualifications

• 10+ years' experience in the design and construction of mineral processing plants.
• Experience delivering complex mechanical engineering scopes independently.
• Strong knowledge of Australian and international standards and codes.
• Ability to work with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.

Responsibilities

• Lead and independently deliver mechanical engineering scopes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review process design criteria, PFDs, mass and water balances to size equipment.
• Perform calculations: pipe sizing, pump selection, NPSH, heat transfer, pressure/ vacuum.
• Select and specify mechanical equipment; size and review datasheets and specs.
• Conduct vendor evaluations and review vendor documentation.
• Provide input into piping, structural, civil, electrical interfaces and studies.
• Ensure designs comply with Australian and international standards and codes.
• Support procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and handover.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZID/HAZOP and risk assessments.
• Provide technical leadership to engineering team members and clients.

Senior Mechanical Engineer Perth, WA | Permanent, Full-Time

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Mechanical Engineer to join an established engineering team delivering projects across the mineral processing sector. This position will take ownership of complex mechanical engineering scopes across projects, studies and engineering packages. You will provide technical leadership, perform and review engineering calculations, select and specify mechanical equipment, and support projects through design, procurement, construction, commissioning and handover.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and independently deliver mechanical engineering scopes throughout the project lifecycle.
• Review Process Design Criteria, PFDs, mass balances and water balances and translate process requirements into mechanical equipment sizing and specifications.
• Perform and review calculations including: Pipe sizing and pressure loss Pump selection and NPSH checks Heat transfer Pressure and vacuum design Lead mechanical design activities and verify critical engineering calculations.
• Select, size and specify mechanical equipment and systems.
• Prepare and review datasheets, technical specifications, calculations, reports and drawings.
• Conduct vendor technical evaluations and review vendor documentation.
• Provide mechanical input into piping, structural, civil, electrical, instrumentation and process interfaces.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant Australian, AS/NZS and international standards and codes.
• Support equipment procurement, fabrication, construction, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Participate in design reviews, HAZID, HAZOP and project risk assessments.
• Provide technical leadership and guidance to engineering team members.
• Work closely with clients, project teams, suppliers and contractors.
• Identify and manage technical, design and project delivery risks.

Skills & Experience

• Minimum 10 years' technical and practical experience in the design and construction of mineral processing plants.
• Strong understanding of multidisciplinary engineering design delivery.
• Demonstrated experience independently delivering complex mechanical engineering scopes.
• Strong experience in mechanical equipment selection, sizing, specification and technical evaluation.
• Experience completing detailed mechanical engineering designs and calculations.
• Experience preparing and reviewing mechanical drawings, datasheets, scopes, specifications and tender evaluations.
• Strong knowledge of applicable Australian and international engineering standards and codes.
• Vendor evaluation, procurement and equipment selection experience.
• Experience supporting or leading fabrication, construction, commissioning and troubleshooting activities.
• Strong technical judgement, analytical and problem-solving capability.
• Ability to work independently and take ownership of engineering outcome.
