Job summary

The Brisbane head office of a major mining services business is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join as a genuine 2IC to the General Counsel. You will advise on mining services contracts, procurement, and construction matters, and work closely with senior management on governance and risk.

This hands-on role offers autonomy, broad exposure to major projects, and competitive remuneration around AUD 280k–290k plus a performance bonus, with flexible working arrangements.

The opportunity:

We are working with a substantial international mining services business to recruit an experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join its Brisbane head office.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded lawyer to work closely with the General Counsel as their genuine 2IC, advising on significant mining services contracts, operational matters and broader legal and commercial issues across the business.

The role offers a great combination of hands‑on commercial work, exposure to senior executives and the Board, and the opportunity to contribute to a growing business with major projects and long‑term opportunities.

The role:

Working directly with the General Counsel, you will:

• Draft, review and negotiate major mining services, procurement, equipment supply and construction‑related contracts.
• Advise on tenders, contract variations, claims, commercial negotiations and operational risk.
• Work closely with commercial and operational teams to provide practical, solutions‑focused legal advice.
• Assist with corporate governance, compliance, risk management and broader business advisory matters.
• Support senior management and contribute to strategic projects and business initiatives.

This is a hands‑on role with genuine breadth, autonomy and visibility across the organisation.

About you:

We are looking for a senior lawyer with approximately 10+ years' PAE who brings:

• Strong commercial contracting, drafting and negotiation experience.
• A background in mining, resources, energy, construction, infrastructure or major projects.
• An understanding of complex operational contracts and the commercial issues that arise throughout their lifecycle.
• Sound commercial judgement and the confidence to engage with senior executives and operational stakeholders.
• A practical, collaborative approach and an interest in being closely involved in the business.

Experience in the mining or mining services sector would be particularly attractive, although lawyers with strong construction and major projects backgrounds are also encouraged to apply.

• A competitive reumeration package of around $280-290,000 plus performance bonus, with flexibility depending on experience.
