Job summary

Firmus Technologies seeks a Senior Kubernetes Engineer within its AI Infrastructure group in Australia. You will own the backend Kubernetes platform design and lifecycle, covering control plane, networking, storage, security, observability, and automation for GPU-accelerated bare-metal environments.

Qualifications

• 7+ years in infrastructure/platform engineering with Kubernetes ownership.
• Deep knowledge of Kubernetes internals (API server, etcd, scheduler, CNI, CSI).
• Experience designing and operating high-availability, multi-cluster Kubernetes on bare metal/private cloud/hybrid.
• Strong Go and/or Rust with practical Python/Bash skills; building platform services.
• Expert Linux knowledge including namespaces, cgroups, kernel, networking, troubleshooting.
• Kubernetes networking with Cilium/Calico; load balancing, DNS, ingress, policy, service mesh.

Responsibilities

• Define and own the Kubernetes platform reference architecture across management and workloads.
• Build and maintain backend services, APIs, controllers, and automation for provisioning, configuring, upgrading clusters.
• Engineer repeatable bare-metal Kubernetes deployment workflows via infrastructure-as-code and tools like Cluster API, kubeadm, Redfish, PXE, Ironic, Metal3.
• Design and operate cluster networking across CNI, DNS, load balancers, and service mesh; integrate high-performance networking for AI workloads.
• Define storage patterns using CSI, Ceph, and object storage; plan backup and disaster-recovery for stateful workloads.
• Integrate NVIDIA GPU and Network Operators for multi-node AI workloads; ensure scalable scheduling and topology-aware placement.
• Establish GitOps and CI/CD patterns with safe testing, progressive rollout, and upgrades; enforce security and policy controls.
