Job summary

Flight Centre Travel Group Australia is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to design and scale backend services for a high‑volume travel platform. You will own core modules, ensure reliability, and drive architecture decisions with Spring Boot, REST/SOAP, and Datadog observability.

Based in Queensland, this full‑time role emphasizes deep backend engineering, high availability systems, and mentoring junior engineers while collaborating with product and platform teams to deliver robust travel

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience in Java
• Expert in Spring ecosystem: Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Data JPA
• Strong track record designing REST APIs and Web Services (SOAP/WSDL)
• Ability to instrument and operate production systems with Datadog
• Experience with Azure-based infrastructure and CI/CD pipelines
• Proficient with relational databases and SQL optimization
• Familiarity with modern microservices patterns and API design

Responsibilities

• Design, build, and own complex backend services and APIs using Java (Spring Boot)
• Deliver modules including change/cancellation processing, waitlist, and policy engine integration
• Integrate with airline GDS systems, internal booking engines, and third-party platforms
• Instrument services with Datadog and define/monitor SLOs/SLIs
• Mentor junior engineers and maintain high API design and test coverage
• Lead DevOps practices: CI/CD, automated testing, deployment hygiene
