Job summary

Flight Centre Travel Group is seeking a Senior Java Engineer to architect and deliver high‑volume backend services. You will own modules from design to production, focusing on reliability, scale and integration with airline GDS and booking engines.

You will work in a hybrid setup with Azure‑based infrastructure, containerised services, and CI/CD pipelines, mentoring teammates and shaping engineering standards across the platform.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of professional software engineering experience with Java (11+; ideally 17/21)
• Expert-level knowledge of the Spring ecosystem (Boot, MVC, Data JPA, Security, Integration)
• Strong experience designing and building REST APIs and SOAP/Web Services at scale
• Experience instrumenting production systems with Datadog (APM, dashboards, logs) and defining SLOs/SLIs
• Experience with Azure-based infra, containers, and deployment pipelines
• Relational database design and query optimisation (MySQL, PostgreSQL, PostgreSQL)

Responsibilities

• Design, build and own complex backend services and APIs in Java with a focus on reliability and performance
• Deliver modules such as change/cancellation processing, waitlist, and policy engine integration
• Integrate with airline GDS, internal booking engines and third‑party platforms
• Ensure high uptime, observability, and incident response; lead post‑incident reviews
