Job description

12 – Month Contract with a potential for extension

Working Hours:

Monday – Thursday 8.30am – 5.00pm

Friday: 8.3.0am – 3.00pm (76 hour fortnight)

12-month contract with a view to extend based on ongoing projects.

About The Opportunity:
Working within a close-knit team of in-house designers, you will lead projects across a diverse portfolio of sites. The role requires you to work client side across the full project life cycle, from briefing through to site delivery. Collaborating with internal stakeholders across maintenance, client care, and operations.

This is a rare opportunity to shape meaningful environments through innovative, high-quality design within a collaborative and purpose-driven team. As part of AQ Design, you will contribute to projects that directly enhance the wellbeing, independence, and lived experience of older Australians.

Based at our Head Office in Upper Mt Gravatt, this role will see you actively involved across projects in Brisbane, the Gold Coast, Ipswich, Toowoomba, and NSW.

The Role:
Reporting to the Design Manager, you will take ownership of projects from concept through to completion—bringing design ideas to life and ensuring exceptional outcomes at every stage. You will also collaborate closely with designers, architects, and external consultants, playing a key role in delivering thoughtful, functional, and beautifully resolved spaces.

This is a hands-on and dynamic role suited to an experienced designer who thrives on variety, takes pride in detail, and enjoys balancing creativity with technical execution. You will be trusted to manage multiple projects, influence design direction, and deliver across a range of budgets and timelines.

This is a fully on-site position based at our Upper Mt Gravatt office, with regular travel to project sites. Due to the collaborative and hands-on nature of the role, hybrid or remote work arrangements are not available.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and manage projects end-to-end, from briefing concept through to completion
  • Prepare 2D drawings, 3D models, and detailed design documentation
  • Coordinate furniture, artwork, and decorative selections
  • Manage supplier relationships and oversee procurement processes
  • Lead FF&E selection, coordination, and ordering
  • Oversee project timelines, budgets, and logistics
  • Manage multiple projects concurrently
  • Travel to project sites as required
  • Assist with styling and preparation for project photoshoots
  • Mentoring junior designers in the studio

Qualifications & Experience:

  • Minimum 8 years’ experience in a design studio environment with both commercial and residential experience running projects from concept to completion
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, SketchUp, and Adobe Creative Suite
  • Strong understanding of the Building Code of Australia (BCA) and relevant standards
  • Excellent attention to detail and design capability
  • Strong organisational, time management, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively
  • Solid administrative and document management skills
  • Current National Police Check and Australian driver’s licence
  • Aged Care experience would be advantageous, but not essential
