Job summary

Yara Pilbara is seeking a Senior Instrumentation and Control System Engineer to lead instrumentation and control systems across production plants, focusing on SIS lifecycle and risk reduction. The role drives reliability, safety, and performance improvements in a complex petrochemical environment.

The successful candidate will oversee capital projects, MOC processes, and long-term asset strategies, while mentoring engineers and coordinating with operations, maintenance, and OEMs.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation Engineering with experience in control systems.
• MIEAust and/or functional safety certification is advantageous.
• 12+ years' experience in petrochemical or similar process industries.
• Strong experience with DCS, ESD and PLC systems, including configuration and troubleshooting.
• Experience supporting both operating plant reliability and brownfield capital projects.

Responsibilities

• Act as the site SME for instrumentation, control systems, analysers and valves across both production plants.
• Provide technical leadership for instrumentation and control system reliability, performance, safety and compliance.
• Lead the lifecycle management of Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) including HAZOPs, LOPAs, SIL assessments and testing.
• Develop and govern instrumentation, control and alarm management standards and specifications.
• Drive troubleshooting, root cause investigations and reliability improvements for critical equipment.
• Lead instrumentation and control aspects of capital projects and MOC processes.
• Develop long-term asset, maintenance and obsolescence strategies for instrumentation, SIS, fire and gas systems.
• Optimize maintenance and reliability strategies to maximise availability and regulatory compliance.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering teams and OEMs on technical solutions.
• Mentor engineers and technicians with day-to-day engineering support.
