Job summary

CoMade in Melbourne, Australia, is seeking a Secondary Electrical Engineer to lead protection, control and SCADA design for HV and EHV substations and transmission projects up to 500 kV. You will work across utility, renewable energy and network projects from concept through commissioning.

You will mentor graduates and junior engineers, review their work, and contribute to tenders, testing and on-site problem solving. A competitive salary and flexible working arrangements are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering.
• 8+ years in HV secondary design, ideally on 132 kV+ substations and renewable connections.
• Familiarity with TNSPs/DNSPs design standards and AS/NZS and IEC standards.

Responsibilities

• Lead secondary systems design and technical review for HV/EHV substations, transmission lines and renewable grid connections.
• Design protection and control schemes for transformers, feeders, busbars and GIS/AIS switchgear.
• Develop IEC 61850 substation automation, SCADA and communications architectures.
• Design auxiliary systems including AC/DC supplies, battery systems and secondary cabling.
• Perform and review protection studies: short circuit, coordination and arc flash.
• Support grid connection and NSP/TNSP compliance under NER Chapter 5.
• Provide input during tenders: scope, RFQs, vendor assessments and bid evaluation.
• Support testing/commissioning, FAT/SAT, and resolve site issues.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers; review their work.
