Job summary

Brunel in Melbourne is seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to lead the secondary system design for high voltage T&D and renewable projects. You will deliver studies and detailed designs from tender through construction, mentoring the P&C design team.

Your role includes handling protection philosophy, relay settings, IEC 61850 GOOSE, IED configuration, and coordination studies, with strong client liaison and budget/schedule oversight.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical (Power Systems) Engineering or equivalent.
• 15+ years of P&C design experience on utility substations or large-scale renewable/T&D projects.
• Delivered EHV substation P&C design (IEC 61850 preferred).
• Knowledge of integrity standards, health & safety, and Safety in Design.
• Professional membership of a national or international engineering body.
• Excellent report writing, presentation and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Deliver P&C design for EHV/HV substations, including protection philosophy, SLDs, line, transformer, busbar and MV switchboard schemes.
• Carry out load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and relay setting studies, plus IED configuration and programming.
• Support procurement, including relay/IED specification, CT/VT requirements, panel drawing review and factory testing.
• Manage design budgets, schedules, quality reviews and Safety in Design.
• Review drafting output and mentor engineers and drafters.
• Build strong client relationships and advise senior management.

The role

We're looking for a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to lead secondary system design on high voltage T&D and renewable projects. You'll deliver studies and designs from tender through detailed design, and provide technical leadership and mentoring to our P&C design team.

What you'll do

• Deliver P&C design for EHV/HV substations, including protection philosophy, SLDs, line, transformer, busbar and MV switchboard schemes, panel schematics, DC/auxiliary systems, SCADA IO and IEC 61850 GOOSE design
• Carry out load flow, short circuit, protection coordination and relay setting studies, plus IED configuration and programming
• Support procurement, including relay/IED specification, CT/VT requirements, panel drawing review and factory testing
• Manage design budgets, schedules, quality reviews and Safety in Design
• Review drafting output and mentor engineers and drafters
• Build strong client relationships and advise senior management

About you
