Job summary

CoMade Pty Ltd is seeking a Senior Secondary Electrical Engineer to lead protection, control and SCADA design for HV and EHV substations and transmission projects up to 500 kV. You will guide graduates and junior engineers, delivering concepts through commissioning across utility, renewable and network projects.

You will apply IEC/AS/NZS standards, develop protection studies, and contribute to tenders and testing activities. A strong CAD and relay platform background is essential.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering required.
• 8+ years of HV secondary design experience, ideally on 132 kV+ substations and renewable connections.
• Experience with TNSPs and DNSPs and knowledge of their design standards.
• Hands-on experience with protection relay platforms (SEL, Siemens, GE or Hitachi Energy).
• Familiarity with CAD tools (MicroStation, AutoCAD or Revit) for directing/drafting checks.
• Knowledge of AS/NZS and IEC standards, NER and National Electricity rules, AEMO processes.
• Familiarity with study tools: DIgSILENT PowerFactory, CAPE or ETAP.
• Chartered status (CPEng) and NER registration or working towards them; RPEQ advantageous for Queensland projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead secondary systems design and technical reviews for HV/EHV substations and transmission lines.
• Design protection and control schemes for transformers, feeders, busbars and GIS/AIS switchgear.
• Develop IEC 61850 substation automation, SCADA and communications architectures.
• Design auxiliary systems including AC/DC supplies and battery systems.
• Perform and review protection studies: short-circuit, protection coordination and settings; arc flash.
• Provide input during tenders: scope development, RFQs, vendor assessment and bids.
• Support testing and commissioning: FAT/SAT and site issue resolution.
• Mentor graduate and junior engineers and review their work.
