Altrad is seeking an experienced Senior HR Business Partner to join our team at our Subiaco head office on an 8-month fixed-term contract, covering a period of parental leave.
Supporting a portfolio of major projects within the resources, energy and construction sectors, this is a senior, hands-on role with a strong focus on managing complex employee relations matters. You will be responsible for a substantial case-management workload, providing timely, practical and commercially considered HR advice to operational leaders in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
Working closely with senior management, project teams and the broader HR function, you will play a critical role in navigating complex workforce matters, mitigating people-related risks and ensuring consistent, compliant HR practices across the business.
This opportunity is ideally suited to an experienced HR professional who can confidently step into an established portfolio, manage competing priorities and provide immediate value through sound judgement, strong stakeholder relationships and a solutions-focused approach.
In this role, you will:
Employee Relations: Independently manage a high volume of complex ER matters, including performance management, disciplinary processes, grievances, workplace investigations, conflict resolution and terminations.
Strategic HR Advisory: Provide practical, commercially focused advice to senior leaders and project management teams on workforce matters, employee performance, organisational change and employment obligations.
Legislation & Compliance: Ensure HR practices and employment decisions align with relevant legislation, Modern Awards, Enterprise Agreements, company policies and industrial instruments.
Stakeholder Management: Build effective working relationships with operational leaders, providing confident guidance and coaching through sensitive and complex employee matters.
Workforce & Performance Management: Support changes to employment conditions, employee transitions within the business, performance management and improvement processes, and site demobilisation activities, ensuring employee movements are managed in accordance with applicable employment conditions and internal requirements.
This is an opportunity to take ownership of a challenging and varied portfolio, working directly with operational decision-makers and contributing to the successful delivery of some of Australia's major industrial projects.
You are an experienced and commercially astute HR professional who thrives in operational environments and is confident managing complex employee matters with minimal supervision. You bring a pragmatic approach to problem-solving, strong knowledge of employment legislation and the ability to balance business requirements with fair and compliant outcomes.
To be successful, you will bring:
Tertiary qualifications in Human Resource Management, Law or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience.
Demonstrated experience in a Senior HR Business Partner or similar advisory role, ideally within construction, resources, energy or heavy industry.
Extensive hands-on experience managing complex ER/IR cases, including workplace investigations, disciplinary matters, grievances, performance management and terminations.
Strong working knowledge of Australian employment legislation, the Fair Work Act, Modern Awards and Enterprise Agreements.
Proven ability to manage a high-volume case-management portfolio while balancing competing priorities and operational deadlines.
Confidence in providing clear, practical advice to senior leaders and influencing outcomes in challenging or sensitive situations.
Experience providing remote support across a geographically dispersed portfolio, with teams and projects located across various parts of Australia.
Strong communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to build credibility quickly.
A proactive, resilient and solutions-focused approach, with the ability to operate autonomously and make sound decisions.
Ability to successfully complete a project-specific pre-employment medical, including drug and alcohol screening.
