Job summary

The Australian Department of Employment and Workplace Relations in Canberra is seeking a Senior Gateway / Network Security Engineer to design, operate and evolve the Department’s Secure Internet Gateway environment, ensuring secure, reliable and resilient government networks.

The role leads technical projects, manages gateway infrastructure and security services, mentors junior staff and collaborates with stakeholders to deliver secure and modernised gateway services.

The Secure Gateway Services team is responsible for delivering and operating Secure Internet Gateway services that protect the Department and multiple Commonwealth agencies. The team manages a broad range of network and cyber security technologies to ensure government systems remain secure, reliable and resilient.

About the role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Senior Gateway / Network Security Engineer to join our team. Reporting to the Director, Secure Gateway Services, you will play a key role in the operation, enhancement and ongoing evolution of the department's Secure Internet Gateway environment.

Key responsibilities include:

• Designing, managing and maintaining gateway infrastructure and security services.


• Leading technical projects, upgrades and service improvement initiatives.


• Troubleshooting and resolving complex technical incidents and changes.

Experience with enterprise networking, security technologies, cloud platforms, scripting or automation will be highly regarded.
