Job description

What is Kick?

Kick is a global live-streaming platform for all types of entertainment content. Our mission is to empower content creators, event organisers, and content rights holders by providing them with the tools and revenue-sharing structures they need to monetise and grow their audiences.

As a result, we are quickly becoming a household name, attracting top-tier creators and expanding rapidly worldwide. You may have seen us in the UFC octagon or on the side of an F1 car, as we seize every opportunity that comes our way.

Kick is now recognised in the big four of live streaming platforms globally, standing tall alongside YouTube, TikTok, and Twitch. In 3 years, we’ve already made a significant impact and have plenty more to achieve. We’re at the beginning of an exciting journey and are looking for brilliant minds to join us.

About the team

Join the Video and Ads team at Kick. You will be at the center of the platform's user experience, responsible for building the video playback experiences our viewers rely on daily and creating the frontend interfaces our creators need to monetise and grow their content. You’ll work within the Video and Ads team to ensure our playback remains industry leading as we expand to new platforms. This role sits at the intersection of complex video player delivery and user-centric design, where you’ll leverage your experience to bring the best possible live and playback performance to our global audience.

Key Responsibilities
  • Architect and develop frontend solutions for our video player, focusing on delivering stable, high performance VOD and live streaming experiences.
  • Implement player ad-tech integrations with third party ad tech vendors, ensuring we optimise CPM whilst keeping user engagement high.
  • Build frontend interfaces that empower our creators to manage their streams and engagement directly.
  • Apply your expertise to optimise playback experiences, ensuring low latency, high quality, unique features and stability under load.
  • Leverage your demonstrated experience in handing over solutions and requirements to other frontend teams such as Android, iOS, and Roku to ensure a cohesive user playback experience across all devices and universal implementation of all API backends.
  • Own the feature lifecycle, from requirement gathering to deployment, in a "you build it, you run it" culture.
  • Respond and work to triage, investigate, and independently resolve issues through collaboration with our operations teams and creators.
  • Use metrics and quantifiable data to guide architectural decisions, drive optimisations, and establish release readiness
  • Collaborate with stakeholders, product managers, and engineering teams to communicate technical concepts clearly
  • Push for improvements and drive constructive changes to enhance team performance and efficiency
  • Provide technical guidance and mentor mid-level engineers on the team
Minimum Qualifications
  • Significant experience 5+ years in frontend web development (React/TypeScript) and testing
  • Proven expertise in video player and advertising technology within a streaming environment
  • Direct experience working with VOD and live streaming technical implementations, specifically regarding ad insertion and stream stability.
  • Proficiency in TypeScript, React, Next.js, GraphQL, and Tailwind CSS
  • Experience with Figma and a pixel perfect implementation mindset
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration across teams and stakeholders
  • Proven track record of building successful design systems and/or complex user interfaces spanning multiple platforms
  • Strong problem solving skills and the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with modern frontend workflows including component-driven development (e.g., Radix UI), and visual regression testing to ensure seamless integration with our team's code review and PR approval processes.
  • Render lifecycle & reconciliation, memoization strategies (useMemo, useCallback, React.memo), concurrent rendering & scheduling concepts
  • Experience with Go (Golang) on the backend is a plus.
  • Experience building or optimising video experiences for Android, iOS, or HTML-based CTV platforms (like Roku).
  • Turborepo / monorepo workflows, isolated component development, visual regression workflows
  • Experience debugging production applications at scale
  • Proven experience leading feature development end-to-end in a previous role, with a metric-driven approach that delivers measurable improvement and impact to the product
