Job summary

Q-CTRL is seeking a Senior FPGA and Embedded Software Engineer in Sydney to develop real-time firmware for quantum sensors. You will hardware-close work, integrate FPGA logic with SoC software, and support field deployment through robust testing and validation.

You will collaborate with researchers and engineers to translate control concepts into reliable, time-synchronised, high-bandwidth data paths, enabling scalable quantum sensing hardware.

Qualifications

• Strong foundations in digital design and embedded systems.
• Familiarity with SystemVerilog for FPGA logic.
• Experience with Xilinx SoCs and Vivado workflows.
• Digital signal processing experience with filters/decimation.
• Experience with cocotb for verification.
• Collaborative approach with engineers and scientists.

Responsibilities

• Develop, integrate, optimise and support FPGA firmware for Q-CTRL quantum sensors.
• Implement and maintain timing-critical digital processing blocks including filters and decimation.
• Build startup, calibration, operation and monitoring routines for autonomous sensor operation.
• Translate control concepts into reliable, real-time behaviour close to hardware.
• Integrate FPGA logic with SoC software for high-bandwidth data capture and storage.
• Improve simulation and hardware-in-the-loop testing for CI and field deployment.
• Investigate system-level issues across FPGA, electronics, embedded Linux and software.
• Contribute to architecture decisions to improve reliability and performance in future revisions.
• Document test, validation and operational procedures for the quantum sensor package.
