Job summary

JBS Australia Pty Limited is seeking a Senior Food Technologist to join the Value-Add team in Melbourne (Laverton site). You will lead formulation, testing, and scale-up from concept to commercialisation, ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards.

You will collaborate across technical, operational and commercial teams to translate ideas into market-ready products, supported by a global meat company with strong career opportunities.

Qualifications

• Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering or related field.
• Experience in product development, R&D or food manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, quality systems and regulatory requirements, including FSANZ.

Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise product formulations, prototypes and samples to meet customer and business requirements.
• Lead product testing, sensory evaluations and technical assessments to ensure product quality, safety and performance.
• Manage product scale-up activities from benchtop development through pilot trials to full commercial production.
• Maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with relevant food regulations, specifications and quality systems.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams and suppliers to troubleshoot issues and deliver successful product outcomes.

About the Role

We are seeking a passionate and hands‑on Senior Food Technologist to join our Value-Add team in Melbourne (Laverton site) and play a key role in developing innovative, market‑ready food products from concept through to commercialisation. Reporting to the R&D Product Manager, you will be the technical expert responsible for translating innovation concepts into commercially successful products. You will lead product formulation, testing, process optimisation and scale‑up activities while ensuring compliance with quality and regulatory standards throughout the development lifecycle

Key Responsibilities

• Develop and optimise product formulations, prototypes and samples to meet customer and business requirements.
• Lead product testing, sensory evaluations and technical assessments to ensure product quality, safety and performance.
• Manage product scale‑up activities from benchtop development through pilot trials to full commercial production.
• Maintain technical documentation and ensure compliance with relevant food regulations, specifications and quality systems.
• Collaborate with cross‑functional teams and suppliers to troubleshoot issues, source ingredients and deliver successful product outcomes.

About You

• A degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Food Engineering or a related discipline.
• Experience in product development, R&D or food manufacturing environments.
• Strong knowledge of food manufacturing processes, quality systems and regulatory requirements, including FSANZ.
• Excellent problem‑solving, analytical and organisational skills.
• A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively across technical, operational and commercial teams.
