Job summary

EnergyCo NSW is seeking a Senior Financial Accountant to support the financial management of a major NSW infrastructure program. You will deliver high-quality reporting, technical accounting guidance and governance support, working closely with the CFO and senior leaders.

You will manage month-end processes, statutory statements and audit readiness, ensuring compliance with Australian accounting standards and NSW Treasury requirements.

Qualifications

• Degree qualification in Commerce or Business, and membership of CPA Australia or the Institute of Chartered Accountants Australia New Zealand.

Responsibilities

• Prepare month-end journals and internal and external reporting packs.
• Provide technical accounting advice under Australian Accounting Standards.
• Coordinate interim financial reporting and audit readiness processes.
• Liaise with NSW Treasury and external auditors for statutory financial statements.
• Maintain general ledger integrity and reconciliations across a large public sector program.

About the Opportunity

EnergyCo NSW is spearheading the transition to renewable energy to deliver clean electricity to the people of NSW as coal-fired power stations near closure. Join EnergyCo as a Senior Financial Accountant and play a key role in supporting the financial management of one of NSW's most significant infrastructure programs. Working closely with senior leaders, including the CFO, you'll deliver high-quality financial reporting, technical accounting advice, audit management and governance support that helps drive informed decision-making across a rapidly growing organisation. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the delivery of the NSW Government's Renewable Energy Zones and electricity infrastructure initiatives while ensuring strong financial stewardship, compliance and continuous improvement across the finance function.

About You

You have strong financial accounting experience and a great technical understanding of Australian Accounting Standards. With a proven track record of delivering high-quality financial reports, you are confident operating in a complex public sector, infrastructure, and/or project-based environment. Highly skilled in the technical delivery of financial accounting advice, you excel in preparing month-end journals, internal and external reporting packs, managing stakeholder queries, reviewing reconciliations and overseeing general ledger integrity. With a can-do attitude, you thrive during year-end, coordinating Interim Financial Reporting and Audit Readiness processes, preparing statutory financial statements, liaising with NSW Treasury and external auditors. Your strengths include developing accounting policies, managing compliance with professional and statutory standards, enhancing financial systems and internal controls and fostering strong, collaborative relationships. You are a collaborative and proactive communicator who builds trusted relationships across diverse stakeholder groups, and enjoys working in a dynamic environment and contributing meaningfully to a positive high-performance team culture. You are comfortable balancing competing priorities, use sound judgement to solve problems, embrace continuous learning and leverage technology to improve processes and outcomes. Your commitment to excellence, ethical practice and customer-focused service enables you to deliver quality results that support organisational success. If you have knowledge of NSW Government Sector finance legislation, NSW Treasury directions and policies, NSW Treasury reporting and budgeting processes and the Prime system it is a plus, however non-NSW Government applicants are equally encouraged to apply.

The Energy Corporation of NSW (EnergyCo) is a statutory corporation established under the Energy and Utilities Administration Act 1987 and governed by its Board, appointed by the Minister for Energy. EnergyCo is a Staff Agency employing all EnergyCo staff and is an agency related to the Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water (DCCEEW). EnergyCo plays a pivotal role in the NSW Government’s Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, which aims to transform the state’s electricity system into one that is cheap, clean, and reliable. As Infrastructure Planner under the Electricity Infrastructure Investment Act 2020, EnergyCo is responsible for leading the delivery of the State’s first five Renewable Energy Zones (REZs) and the first two priority transmission infrastructure projects (PTIPs), which are located in the Central-West Orana, New England, South West, Hunter-Central Coast, and Illawarra regions. We work closely with communities, investors, and industry to investigate, plan, recommend and coordinate generation, storage and network infrastructure projects.
