Job summary

Energy One, a leading energy trading software provider, seeks a Financial Accountant for a 12-month fixed-term contract. The role involves managing month-end close, consolidations, and continuous improvement of finance processes across Australia and international operations.

The successful candidate will have a tertiary accounting qualification with 1–2 years’ accounting experience, strong technical accounting skills, and proficiency in Excel.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or related field with 1–2 years accounting experience.
• Progressing towards or completed CA or CPA qualification.
• Strong technical accounting knowledge and understanding of financial statements.

Responsibilities

• Manage month-end close activities with accruals, provisions, prepayments, amortisation, revenue recognition.
• Perform bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations to maintain internal controls.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, software capitalisation, depreciation, and asset register maintenance.
• Prepare intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and consolidation eliminations.
• Monitor daily cash flow, banking activities, and foreign currency rates.
• Support accounts payable/receivable and respond to finance-related queries.
• Assist with year-end audit and statutory compliance obligations.
• Support finance transformation and acquisition integration projects.

Financial Accountant - 12 month fixed term contract

The Role

The Financial Accountant is responsible for maintaining strong financial controls, managing complex accounting activities, supporting month-end and consolidation processes, and driving the standardisation and continuous improvement of finance processes. Working closely with stakeholders across Australia and international operations, the Financial Controller will help ensure compliance with Group accounting policies, support acquisition integration activities, and contribute to the delivery of a scalable and efficient finance function that supports Energy One's continued global expansion.

This is a12-month fixed-term contract position established to provide additional finance capability during the implementation of key strategic initiatives, ensuring business-as-usual reporting obligations continue to be met while critical transition and integration milestones are successfully delivered.

Job requirements

• Technical accounting knowledge is a must.
• Understanding of financial statements
• Knowledge of components that build the financial statements (AP, AR, accrued income/expenses, deferred revenue, fixed assets, intangibles, etc)
• Intermediate to advanced Excel (index match, vlookup, sumifs, pivot tables).
• Experience working with accounting systems examples include: Sage Intacct, Sage X3, Microsoft Dynamics, SAP concur, Calumo
• Excellent time management skills and attention to detail
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Tertiary qualification in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, coupled with 1-2 years of accounting experience.
• Progressing towards, or having completed, a Chartered Accountant (CA) or Certified Practising Accountant (CPA) qualification.

Job responsibilities

• Manage month-end close activities, including accruals, provisions, prepayments, amortisation, revenue recognition, and period-end reporting.
• Perform bank, balance sheet, and general ledger reconciliations to ensure financial accuracy and maintain effective internal controls.
• Manage fixed asset accounting, software capitalisation, depreciation, and asset register maintenance.
• Prepare and review intercompany transactions, reconciliations, and consolidation eliminations to support Group reporting.
• Monitor daily cash flow, manage banking activities, and maintain foreign currency rates within finance systems.
• Provide support across accounts payable and accounts receivable functions and respond to finance-related queries from the business.
• Assist with year-end audit requirements, statutory compliance obligations, and financial reporting activities.
• Support finance transformation initiatives, including shared services transitions, process standardisation, and acquisition integration projects.
