Job summary

Long Island Homes in Melbourne’s western suburbs is seeking a motivated Estimator with experience in estimating new homes and DataBuild. The role offers mentoring from senior colleagues and a chance to expand into procurement and costing analysis.

You will prepare takeoffs, manage quotes with suppliers, and support procurement discussions, ensuring accurate costings and healthy margins within a supportive team culture.

Qualifications

• Experience in estimating new homes and working with DataBuild.
• Tertiary qualifications in Building and Construction.
• A good understanding of new home construction.
• Strong knowledge of industry policies, standards and codes of practice.
• Organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Superior communication skills both verbal and written.
• Ability to multi-task, set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Confident and ability to work within a team.
• Self-motivated professional who is hard working and willing to work autonomously.
• Problem Solving Mentality.
• Willing to contribute feedback and suggestions for improvement.

Responsibilities

• Preparation of material take offs and complete Bill of Quantities to issue Purchase Orders to all relevant parties.
• Obtaining Quotes and Liaising with Suppliers and Trades.
• Exposure to Procurement discussions with key suppliers and mentoring if required.
• Checking and proofing of work.
• Assessing and approving Extra to Schedule (ETSs) requests and invoices.
• Conducting Pricing assessments and Cost Comparison presentations.
• Margin Assessment and analysis to ensure margins are maintained.
• Liaising with Permits, Customer Service, Estimating, Interior Designers and Site Supervisors.
• Interpreting working drawings, contract documentation, colour schedules and procedures.
• Maintain communication of current workload with the Business Manager, Customer Service and other team members as required.
