Job summary

Symal Infrastructure is delivering the Gawaya Baya Wind Farm and seeks a Senior Environmental Advisor to lead environmental performance on the project. You will drive compliance, sustainability and risk mitigation across 400MW of generation, 68 wind turbines, and 300 personnel peak workforce.

This role requires hands-on field leadership, stakeholder engagement with regulators and client representatives, and mentoring of junior staff.

Qualifications

• Tertiary qualification in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Natural Resource Management, Earth Sciences, Science, Engineering or related discipline.
• Demonstrated experience in a Senior Environmental Advisor or Environmental Advisor role within civil construction, infrastructure, resources, renewable energy or major projects.
• Strong knowledge of Australian environmental legislation, approvals and compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead the implementation and ongoing review of the Project Environmental Management Plan and Sustainability Management Plans.
• Provide senior technical environmental advice to project leadership and subcontractors.
• Drive environmental compliance across construction activities and ensure requirements are understood and achieved.
• Lead environmental inspections, audits, monitoring programs and risk assessments.
• Identify environmental risks and implement practical mitigation measures.
• Manage environmental approvals, permits, licences and conditions.
• Review environmental documentation (EMPs, SEPs, SMPs, SWMS) for accuracy and compliance.
• Maintain strong field presence and collaborate with supervisors, engineers and subcontractors.
• Lead investigation and close-out of environmental non-conformances and corrective actions.
• Support regulatory engagement and environmental reporting requirements.
• Prepare environmental and sustainability reporting for project leadership and clients.
• Support project audits and ISO 14001 compliance.
• Engage with Client HSEQ team and participate in risk workshops and incident investigations.
• Deliver environmental training and toolbox talks to workers and subcontractors.
• Mentor junior environmental staff and support their development.
• Identify opportunities for environmental performance improvement through innovation.
