Synapse- Canada is seeking a Firmware Developer to maintain and enhance embedded software for traffic products designed to assist the visually impaired. You will contribute to the design cycle from requirements through launch and collaborate with a cross-functional team.

The role requires a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and 5+ years of embedded development experience, with strong C skills and Linux familiarity. Hybrid remote work and comprehensive benefits are offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electrical, Electronic, or Computer Engineering
• 5+ years of experience
• Strong understanding of embedded software development best practices
• Familiarity with ARM Cortex architectures (e.g. M4, M7)
• Familiarity with security basics (AES, TRNG, certificates)
• Experience with interfaces like SPI, I2C, I2S, UART, USB, BLE, Wi-Fi, Ethernet
• Networking concepts and protocols (UDP, TCP, HTTP, REST, CoAP)
• Reading schematics to troubleshoot hardware with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, and in-circuit emulators
• Firmware debugging skills
• Git version control
• Familiarity with Linux
• Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills

Responsibilities

• Maintain and enhance embedded software for existing product lines
• Participate in embedded software design cycle from requirements to launch
• Design, develop, code, test, and debug embedded software
• Integrate, verify, and validate new product designs and changes
• Perform design and code reviews
• Interface with cross-functional engineering team
• Support Tech Support with product knowledge
