Job summary

UGL is seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer, Primary Systems to join our Utilities engineering team in North Sydney. You will provide conceptual and detailed primary design for HV substations, transmission, BESS, solar and wind farm projects, reporting to the Team Lead Electrical Engineer, Primary Systems.

As a senior member of the team, you will lead design packages, check and verify engineering outputs, coordinate interfaces and provide technical direction to other engineers and drafting

Qualifications

• Four-year Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• Eight years’ experience in the primary design of HV plants or substations.
• Proven experience leading primary substation design packages across major utility, mining or renewable energy projects.
• CP Eng status preferred or engaged with professional engineering body.

Responsibilities

• Lead primary design packages and coordinate engineering deliverables across tender and project phases.
• Develop and review substation configurations, plant layouts, busbar systems, electrical clearances, underground services and equipment specifications.
• Undertake or oversee HV cable, earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMF, corona and lighting design.
• Check and verify engineering work for technical accuracy, compliance, constructability and interface coordination.
• Plan and monitor design activities against delivery schedules, budgets and project priorities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, designers and drafting personnel.
• Support customer and site visits, procurement, construction, commissioning, tendering and technical evaluations as required
