Job summary

UGL seeks a Senior Electrical Engineer, Primary Systems to join our Utilities team in North Sydney. You will deliver primary design for HV substations, transmission, BESS, solar and wind projects, leading packages and coordinating interfaces.

You will direct other engineers and drafting staff, ensuring outputs are technically sound, safe and constructible while partnering with project teams, tendering, construction and business development to meet client, safety, quality and budget needs.

Qualifications

• A four-year Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent.
• At least eight years’ experience in the primary design of HV plants or substations.
• Proven experience leading primary substation design packages across major utility, mining or renewable energy projects.
• Strong technical capability in HV cable design, earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMF and lighting design.
• Chartered Professional Engineer status preferred.

Responsibilities

• Lead primary design packages and coordinate engineering deliverables across tender and project phases.
• Develop and review substation configurations, plant layouts, busbar systems, electrical clearances, underground services and equipment specifications.
• Undertake or oversee HV cable, earthing, lightning protection, insulation coordination, EMF, corona and lighting design.
• Check and verify engineering work for technical accuracy, compliance, constructability and interface coordination.
• Plan and monitor design activities against delivery schedules, budgets and project priorities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to engineers, designers and drafting personnel.
• Support customer and site visits, procurement, construction, commissioning, tendering and technical evaluations as required.
